RUF-International Update: Introducing Michael Alsup

Michael Alsup is RUF-I’s newest Campus Minister! He and his wife Kelly joined RUF-I this year and are serving students on the campus of Auburn University. We asked Michael to share about how the Lord brought them to this ministry.

Michael, why have you chosen to serve at Auburn?

My wife and I are Auburn graduates and previously lived in the Auburn community for almost 20 years. We are well connected to the community and the local PCA churches. Auburn is also in the same Presbytery that I have been a member for the last 30 years.  International Student Ministry is more effective with volunteers, and there is no better place we could go because we know many in the community.

Why do you want to serve international students?

I have always been burdened for foreign mission, having participated in numerous foreign missions trips over the years. In my last pastorate I had a lot of opportunities to interact with international students. In the last few years I’ve had a close relationship with two international students from countries closed to the gospel. International students are often the future leaders of their countries, and God in His providence has brought them to our campuses.

What is one interesting fact about you?

After graduating from college I worked for a paper company in the IT department.  My college pastor and and a college professor encouraged me to return to Auburn to pursue a Christian vocation. I came back and worked with a ministry to international students. I’ve come full circle having served in pastoral ministry for 28 years.  I am excited to recruit and train Christians in the Auburn community to demonstrate the love of Christ to the nations at Auburn. Please pray for our transition!
