The college campus holds a unique ministry context with opportunities and obstacles abounding. We want to help you discern if campus ministry through RUF is a good fit through our Assessment process. Assessment is for Campus Ministers and Campus Staff.

FAQ
Assessment is a three-day event that pairs assessors who have extensive campus ministry experience with potential candidates to evaluate a fit of gifts, character and culture with RUF as ministry and organization. The assessment event includes various exercises intended to communicate the culture of RUF as a ministry and to help assessors evaluate certain soft and hard skills necessary for effective campus ministry. During the entire process, assessors will get to know you, ask questions and provide observations and constructive feedback. We want both RUF and the potential candidate to have alignment on both what they believe and the way they handle their beliefs.
Campus Minister applications are open year round. The Campus Staff application is open from September 1 through November 2. We recommend applying 12-18 months before you would be hireable. Deadlines for each Assessment are above. Applications are due approximately 2 months before assessment begins.

As you complete the application, please note that it will be read by a presbytery committee if you pass Assessment and are recommended for campus placement. While remaining concise, your answers should be thoughtful in light of a committee’s review.
Assessment is facilitated by members of RUF National, Area Coordinators, veteran Campus Staff, and others connected to RUF. Each candidate is assigned a male and a female assessor that will conduct the interview process and guide you through assessment.
Assessment is attended by applicants, spouses when applicable, those serving as assessors and a few members of RUF National leadership.
If you are married, your spouse is required to attend RUF Assessment with you. We have designed each of the sessions with the intention that your spouse would participate in the entire Assessment process. Though there is not a specific or prescriptive expectation for their involvement in RUF’s work on the campus, we want to know how you as a couple do life in ministry together. We also believe that their introduction to the RUF culture is an essential part of the assessment process.
Any nursing babies are welcome to attend Assessment. We understand that if you bring an infant, you may need to step out of sessions periodically to attend your child. We recognize that a husband may need to step out occasionally as well, but we would encourage minimizing the time when he is gone in order to help facilitate his participation in the process.
You can arrange for childcare to come with you and if there is room at the venue hotel we will be glad to make a reservation for an extra room. The cost for an extra room will not be covered by RUF.
The cost of Assessment will be your personal travel and food. RUF will cover your hotel and Assessment fees.
Please wait until after you have received confirmation that you have been approved to attend assessment to make any non-refundable travel arrangements.
Fly in the night before assessment since it begins at 7:30am the first morning .
Make departure flights no earlier than 5pm. Assessment typical ends no later than 2pm on the last day, but depending on time and distance to the airport, we want you to be able to finish the assessment and still have time to make your flights.
Coffee and tea is provided each morning.
A candidate Groupme is set up for communication during the week. Make sure you have the app downloaded to receive updates leading up to and during assessment. Feel free to use it to coordinate shared rides, meals and ask questions.
Applicants will be asked to submit a marriage assessment (if married). The group introduction session and sermon workshop will also require preparation.
Assessment will consist of group introductions, preaching, case studies, focus groups, and informational Q&As. It will also include individual interviews with your assigned assessor.
