Meet Our Team

Austin McCann

Austin McCann

Campus Minister

Austin was born and raised in Memphis, TN. He began attending RUF as a freshman at Mississippi State University. Through the ministry of God's Word and meaningful friendships, the Lord used RUF to show Austin his deep need for grace in the Gospel and an ever-growing love for Christ and His Church. He also met his wonderful wife, Alex, through RUF. After graduating from MSU (2012-2016), Austin worked for two years as an RUF intern at Auburn University. In 2018, the McCanns moved to Charlotte, NC where Austin attended Reformed Theological Seminary. In 2022, the McCanns moved to Aggieland where Austin served as the RUF Campus Minister at Texas A&M University (2022-2024). It is now an absolute joy to be serving at his alma mater! Hailstate! They have three kids, Henry (4), Betsy (2) and Everett (6 months old). Austin enjoys all things outdoors, talking MSU sports, reading a good book, and hole in the wall restaurants.

Ben Ford

Intern

Ben had his childhood in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Indiana as a son of a preacher. He spent middle school and high school in San Antonio, Texas and later graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in History. Ben joined RUF his freshman year at Texas A&M where he grew in his faith and made numerous friends. Now, he’s going back home to Mississippi State University to reach students for Christ and equip them to serve. In his off time, he enjoys movies, sports, fishing, traveling, and writing.

Jacob Hatfield

Jacob Hatfield

Intern

Jacob was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to pursue a degree in Aerospace. During the pandemic, he decided he was done waiting and got married to his high school sweetheart, Claire, after their sophomore year at Middle Tennessee State University. There, he got involved with RUF and deepened his understanding of the Gospel, God’s grace, and his provision. After growing and learning so much in his time with RUF, he decided to pursue the internship and work to give that experience to other college students. Jacob loves playing spikeball (or anything where he can be competitive), writing music, and spending time with da boyz. He is very excited to serve students and see what the Lord has planned!

Claire Hatfield

Claire Hatfield

Intern

Claire Hatfield was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Because of her love for singing and children, she decided to pursue a degree in Music Education from Middle Tennessee State University. She married her high school sweetheart after her sophomore year at MTSU and can not wait to work alongside him in the internship. Claire loves musical theatre (especially Les Mis), line dancing, growing houseplants, and singing anything from opera to bluegrass. The Lord has used RUF to grow her in her love for others and for her Savior and she is so pumped to share that same joy with the students!

Rachel Lopez

Intern

Rachel was born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina. She graduated from Clemson University in the spring of 2025, a third generation Clemson alum, with a degree in Communication and minor in Business Administration. During her time in college, the Lord used RUF to provide her with sweet, Christ-centered community and to bring her closer to Himself. She is thrilled to continue to be a part of what the Lord is doing through RUF! When she’s not line dancing to country music, Rachel can be found with a coffee in one hand and a good book or paintbrush in the other.
