RUF Tyler seeks to be a community of students at UT Tyler and Tyler Junior College who are growing in our faith; learning to love God, love others, and love our campus. RUF welcomes the committed and the seeking, the convinced and the skeptical. We are a community where no matter what your background or belief (or doubt) you can explore Christianity, grow in your understanding of Jesus, and learn what it looks like to walk with him. We hope you'll join us!

John Gordy
John has been serving with RUF since 2019, first as the Campus Minister at Valdosta State University, and now as the Campus Minister at UT Tyler. He is originally from Louisville, GA and is a graduate of the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) He was heavily impacted by the ministry of RUF and Redeemer PCA as a student at UGA. John studied History during college, played lots of ultimate frisbee with RUF friends, and attended many football games cheering on the Dawgs. After graduation, he worked in banking in both Athens and Augusta, GA. During this time, he met his wife Sarah, while she was working as a nurse, through some common friends that they knew from RUF. They were married in 2009. In 2011, sensing a call to ministry, the Gordy’s moved to St. Louis, MO where John graduated from Covenant Theological Seminary in 2014. John ministered to students while serving in youth ministry at churches in Decatur, AL, and Rochester, MN after seminary. The Gordys have two girls, Grace and Charlotte.
John enjoys listening to 80’s music, reading, following the Atlanta Braves (AL team has always been the Texas Rangers), and watching both Marvel movies & Georgia football. He is excited about the opportunities for ministry on the UT-Tyler campus and learning more about the great state of Texas!
Abby Plott
Abby is from Jasper, Alabama, and graduated from Samford University with a degree in Human Development and Family Science and a minor in Arabic. In college, she connected with the community of RUF and fostered a passion for overseas missions and local ministry. After graduating, Abby began working as an RUF intern at UT Tyler, and after completing 2 years of the internship, felt called to stay in Tyler as Campus Staff.
You can probably find Abby at one of Tyler's local coffee shops. She loves reading, being outside, thrifting, playing sports, and eating ice cream! Abby is thankful to be in Tyler, and excited to be part of God's work on campus.
