University of South Carolina

Join us on Monday nights at 8pm at the South Carolina Study Center (1711 Pendleton Street)

As a Christian ministry at USC, we strive to reach students with the good news of Jesus and to equip our students to serve others. RUF stands for Reformed University Fellowship and is the campus ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America.

Jesus said that he did not come to save the righteous, but sinners. At RUF, we do not wish to pretend to have it all together. We are people in need of grace. Consequently, all are welcome to be part of our group, regardless of personal or religious background. RUF exists for the "convinced" and the "unconvinced," the lost, the found, the burned, bored, cynical, or spiritual. If this sounds interesting to you, please contact us. We would love to get to know you!

Sammy Rhodes

Campus Minister

Sammy Rhodes is the RUF campus minister at the University of South Carolina. He is from Sumter, SC and graduated from The University of South Carolina, where he met his wife, Alyssa. Caroline Capper

Caroline Capper

Campus Staff

Caroline (Terry) Capper was born and raised in Canton, Mississippi. After graduating from Belhaven University, she moved to South Carolina in the fall of 2018 to start working for RUF at USC as an intern. In the fall of 2021, she came on as Campus Staff to continue her ministry. RUF changed Caroline's life in college and she loves the fact that she's able to work for this ministry as it still continues to impact college students. In her free time, Caroline can be found either taking naps, sipping on coffee, or hanging out with her husband, Mark.

Bailey Dewald

Bailey Dewald

Intern

Born and raised in Morristown, Tennessee, Bailey loves college football on a Saturday, The Princess and the Frog, being at a baseball game in the summertime, and driving through the mountains. She graduated from Anderson University in May 2026 with a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design. Bailey grew up knowing the Lord, but something changed when she came to college. During the first week of classes at AU, she was invited to RUF and almost immediately fell in love with the true Gospel community and the deep scriptural teaching it offered. Throughout her four years of being served by and serving through RUF, Bailey was shown the love of Christ by the people around her and learned to love scripture in a way she hadn't before. The Lord used RUF at Anderson University to greatly shape Bailey's life and faith, and she is so excited to see how He will use her at the University of South Carolina!

Wright Whitney

Wright Whitney

Intern

Wright grew up in Clinton, Mississippi, and graduated from Mississippi College in 2025 with a degree in Biblical studies. During college, he had the opportunity to serve in the youth ministry at his church, and through this, he was able to see the Lord at work in ways both remarkable and perfectly unremarkable. This, paired with his time in RUF during college, helped to develop a passion for the work of ministry, and he hopes to find a way to serve the church full-time in the future. Though an introvert at heart, he is a people person, and loves swapping stories with strangers, cracking jokes with foodservice workers, and asking his baristas about their recommendations for at least 10 minutes before ordering anything. Wright loves good music, good coffee, and good weather, but he loves nothing like he loves a good story, and he can almost always be found hunting for one, whether in a conversation, a book, a song, or a video game.
