University of Kentucky
Join us Wednesday nights at 8 in JSB 321
Welcome to RUF at Kentucky! We are a community of students on campus seeking to love God and love our neighbor. Our goal is to help students come to understand, know, and follow Jesus Christ as they walk through their college years, and to help lay a foundation for a lifetime of following Jesus and serving him in all areas of life.
Jesus said that he did not come to save the righteous, but sinners. At RUF, we do not wish to pretend to have it all together. We are people in need of grace. Consequently, all are welcome to be part of our group, regardless of personal or religious background. RUF exists for the "convinced" and the "unconvinced," the lost, the found, the burned, bored, cynical, or spiritual. Whoever you are and whatever your story, RUF exists for you.
Meet Our Team
Sam is a native of Dublin, Ireland, but has lived most of his life in the Southeastern US. He attended the University of Georgia, and became a Christian through the ministry of RUF and Redeemer Presbyterian. Upon graduating from college, Sam served as an RUF intern at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). It was during this time that he met his future wife, Anne (a native of Lexington, KY and graduate of Auburn University), who was serving as the RUF intern at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Sam and Anne married while Sam was attending Reformed Theological Seminary and working with college students at Millsaps College and First Presbyterian Church. In the summer of 2017, they moved to Lexington to work with RUF at UK after serving with RUF at Middle Tennessee State for four years. Sam and Anne have three boys and a girl: Finn, Charlie, Patrick and Lucy.
David grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. Looking to get away from home, he moved to Boone, North Carolina to study communications at Appalachian State University (Roll 'Neers!). There RUF brought him community, helped him grow in God's word, and most importantly made him realize that this world really isn't all it's made out to be compared to eternity. The ministry was there for him during his highest and lowest points during college. Out of a desire to continue to help students through RUF's ministry, he took up the call to become an RUF Intern at the University of Kentucky.
David enjoys running, yoga, cycling, camping and hiking. His automatically assumed posture is sitting in a chair reading a book (likely Tim Keller) and drinking a cup of tea. He is an avid pursuer of standup comedy, and his favorite band to listen to is Judah and the Lion.
Ellie was born and raised in Florida before her family moved and settled in Savannah, Georgia in 2014. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she attained a degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. Before she got to Ole Miss, she was told by many of her older friends that there were a million things she could do when she got to campus, but RUF needs to be the one thing she definitely participates in. This would be a decision she will be forever grateful for as it shaped her faith and brought her the most gracious community she could have ever asked for. Ellie cannot wait to serve the students at her mother’s alma matter and be closer to her brother and sister, who are current students at UK! She loves college basketball, Publix sweet tea, and going on drives anywhere as long as she has her best friends in the car with her.
