Jeff Saunders

Jeff Saunders

Campus Minister

Jeff is originally from Memphis, TN and graduated from the University of Memphis in 2010. Jeff met Katie during his college years while they both worked together as lifeguards at the same pool. Following graduation he moved to Knoxville to work and help volunteer with RUF at UTK. This is where Jeff fell in love with college ministry. After Katie graduated the two of them moved to St. Louis to attend Covenant Seminary where Jeff received an M.DIV in 2015. It was during their time at Covenant that God gave both of them a desire to serve in Japan. During their first few years of being in Japan, learning the language, and being exposed to a number different ministries, they continued to sense God leading them to pursue college ministry. And so, after much prayer and many conversations Jeff received a call to start RUF-G in Tokyo, Japan.

Jeff and Katie have 2 children: Emerie (2015) and Ezra (2018). As a family they love to explore the city and seek out the seemingly endless options Tokyo has. Food is also a passion of theirs which is good because there is literally no other country with the food culture that Japan has. People, you have no idea what good sushi tastes like. I’m just saying.

Andrew Onozuka

Andrew Onozuka

Intern

Andrew Onozuka was born and raised in San Diego, and earned his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2025. During and after college, Andrew worked in a variety of fields ranging from sports and software to restaurant businesses. Through these experiences, however, he increasingly sensed God calling him toward ministry in Japan.

Andrew did not grow up in a Christian home. During his college years, the Lord used campus ministries and his local church to draw him to faith in Christ and radically shape the direction of his life. He first came to faith through a non-denominational church before eventually joining Redeemer San Diego (PCA), where he is now a member. Through his own journey, Andrew became deeply convinced of the importance of the college years as a uniquely formative season of life and developed a desire to encourage and walk alongside university students in their faith.

As a Japanese-American who spent several years growing up in Japan, Andrew is especially excited for the opportunity to return to Tokyo and connect with students there through the Gospel. In his free time, he enjoys eating good food, watching movies, being outdoors, and going for a scenic drive.
