Welcome to RUF in Rionegro, Colombia! Located in the country’s fastest growing region, we strive to reach university students with the good news of the grace of Jesus Christ.
Our aim is to be a community on campus where students feel seen, known, and loved as they navigate some of life’s biggest questions. We love the outdoors, homemade cookies, practicing English together, and studying the Bible. Whether you’re a believer, skeptic, or anywhere in between, come join us!

Queremos ser una comunidad en el campus donde los estudiantes se sientan vistos, conocidos y amados mientras se enfrentan a algunas de las preguntas más importantes de la vida. Meet Our Team
Johan Cabrera
Johan and his wife, Angela, are serving in Rionegro, Colombia, where they have been involved in church planting and relational ministry within their community since 2022. They have two daughters, Rafaela and Antonia, and are passionate about building meaningful relationships with students, families, and individuals, and reaching them with the gospel.
Johan has been involved in and preparing for a lifelong calling in pastoral ministry for several years. He has served in campus ministry for six years, participated in church planting work in Chile, and completed his theological training in 2024. He is currently a candidate for pastoral ministry and is nearing ordination. He especially loves engaging with students, walking alongside them through questions of faith and life, leading Bible studies, and helping them see how the Gospel speaks to every area of their lives. His ministry focuses on building intentional relationships on campus, one-on-one discipleship, and equipping students to live out and share their faith in their own contexts.
John McCall
John and his wife Lorena are missionaries with MTW and have been serving in Rionegro, Colombia, doing church planting and campus ministry since 2020. They have three kids and are focused on reaching the next generation with the gospel. Previously John worked with college students for 12 years at the University of Virginia where he served as the Assistant Director and then Director for the Outdoor Adventure Program. There he saw how his background could be used for effective campus ministry in a cross-cultural setting. John enjoys the time on campus connecting with students, doing Bible studies, and using outdoor adventure activities to build relationships and have gospel conversations.
Diana Florian Peña
Diana was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and grew up in a small town nearby. She studied English education at the National University of Colombia. Although Diana was raised in a Christian home, it was through her involvement in RUF that she truly came to understand and experience God’s grace and mercy in a personal way.
After graduation, Diana decided to become an RUF Intern and loved her two years serving at her alma mater. Sensing a call to ministry, she moved to Rionegro to join a team starting a new RUF. She’s enjoying small city life, the beauty of the mountains and colorful flowers and learning more about paisa culture. Diana looks forward to continuing to see God at work in the lives of students in Rionegro and sharing the freedom she herself found through being loved and changed by God’s grace.
She loves laughing, popcorn, playing Dutch Blitz, reading, and spending time with friends and family. She’d love to take you to a cute coffee shop and have a long, meaningful conversation!
