New RUF National Staff

Thomas Hicks, Intern Recruiting Associate
Thomas recently wrapped up his 2nd year of the Internship at Appalachian State in Boone, NC and will now recruit Interns to serve the campus! He is moving to Denver, CO after he gets married to his fiance, Grace, on August 1st. Thomas has a background in video/photo and hopes to use that to promote the Internship and RUF as a whole (maybe while visiting your campus). He is excited to have conversations with your students about how they can grow personally through the Internship and how God can use them to help grow the Kingdom!
Joelle Smith, PT National Ministry Administrator
We are pleased to welcome Joelle Smith to the RUF National team as a part-time Ministry Administrator supporting John Pearson, Michael Gordon, JR Foster, and Mitch Gindlesperger. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Joelle will provide administrative support that helps strengthen the work of our national team as we seek to reach students and equip staff across the country. Originally from Tacoma, Washington, Joelle earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington before completing a Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Covenant Theological Seminary. She has served the church in a variety of ministry contexts, including six years alongside her husband, Luke, in Tucson, Arizona, and brings a wealth of ministry experience, flexibility, and a heart for serving others. Joelle is excited to join RUF because of her desire to support the flourishing of campus ministry and contribute to the work God is doing through RUF. She and Luke have two sons, and outside of work she enjoys thrift shopping, sharing her love of nerd culture with her children, eating pho, and watching Taskmaster with Luke.

Mike Park, Recruiting Coordinator-East
We are pleased to welcome Mike S. Park to RUF as our new Recruiting Coordinator–East. In this role, Mike will help cultivate the next generation of RUF leaders by building relationships, developing recruiting networks, and inviting men and women to consider vocational ministry through RUF. Mike’s call to ministry began during his time at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he earned degrees in Educational Psychology and General Psychology. He later completed both a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry at Covenant Theological Seminary and has served the church through pastoral ministry, church planting, theological education, and leadership development. Most recently, Mike served as Director of Admissions for Reformed Theological Seminary’s Washington, NYC, and Chicago campuses. Though new to an official RUF role, Mike has long admired RUF’s commitment to reaching college students with the gospel and has a deep passion for helping others discern a call to ministry. He is excited to help recruit and encourage future RUF staff, Interns, and ministry leaders. Mike and his wife, Grace, have four children. Outside of ministry, Mike enjoys lifting heavy things at the gym.
Katie Paterson, Accounting Associate – Payroll
We are pleased to welcome Katie Paterson to the RUF National Office team as our new Accounting Associate–Payroll. In this role, Katie will use her administrative and human resources experience to support the financial and operational work that enables RUF staff to serve students across the country. Katie grew up in North Georgia and earned a bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies from Georgia Southern University. Over the past 20 years, she has served DeKalb County in a variety of administrative roles, including the last decade in Human Resources. After taking time away from her career to focus on her family, Katie is excited to return to work in a role that combines her experience with her desire to support gospel ministry. Katie and her husband, Justin, have been married for 12 years and have two daughters, Avery and Finley. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, weekends at the lake, cheering on Atlanta sports teams, and making memories with her girls.
