Meet Our New Campus Ministers and Area Coordinators

We are thrilled to welcome these new campus ministers to our staff. Please pray for them as they begin their ministries on campus.

Joey Barnet – University of Delaware, Interim Campus Ministry Associate

Barnett fam

As an RUF Campus Minister Associate at the University of Delaware, Joey Barnet is looking forward to bringing years of college teaching, doctoral study, and seminary studies to bear on his ministry. Along with wife Ruth and 4-month-old Grace, moving back to Delaware will mean a return to family near Silver Spring, Maryland as well as a return to his first spiritual home of RUF. It was through RUF at University of Maryland College Park that Joey “stumbled across” a campus minister who first shared the Gospel and the doctrines of grace with him. After graduating with a degree in psychology and pre-medical concentration, he continued involvement with RUF as an alumni and met his wife at an RUF event he had helped organize.

While interning with RUF was first considered by Joey five years ago, he realized that the demands of his PhD program in experimental psychology at East Tennessee State University would make it wiser to wait. Now, he’s thrilled to be able to apply his gifts in a new way to campus ministry and vocational ministry beyond as he continues classes at Reformed Theological Seminary (D.C. campus). When Joey isn’t preparing to defend his dissertation, he is hiking in new places with his family, reading philosophy, getting up to his family’s home in Vermont, or playing Super Smash Bros. He’s also fluent in Spanish, a little in German, and his absolute favorite food is home-smoked BBQ!

David Birnie – University of Washington, Campus Minister

Birnie fam

David and his wife Krista were called to work for RUF at the University of Washington in 2020. They met through RUF at Stanford University. David is a graduate of Gordon-Conwell seminary as well as Wake Forest University, where he was first introduced to RUF. Born in California, David has lived all over the country, including Colorado, Massachusetts, and now, Washington. If he’s not hanging out with students at UW, you might be able to find him reading in a coffee shop, watching movies (or old episodes of The Office, Arrested Development, and Seinfeld), playing basketball, ping pong, or enjoying the great outdoors in a variety of ways including (but not limited to) hiking, biking, golfing, rowing, kayaking, swimming, or any other way he can try to keep up with UW students. David and Krista met when David was interning with RUF at Stanford and Krista was a grad student. It was love at first sight (well, maybe, not quite), and they got married in 2010. They have three kids: Annika (2014), Micah (2017), and Nate (2019). Each one is an absolute delight, and they are all excited about meeting more students at UW.
