Welcome to RUF at Boston University! We are a Christian campus ministry that gathers to study God's word and live it out in service and fellowship. Contact our Campus Minister at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
Rev. Nathan Dicks, a Southerner by birth, has been the Campus Minister with RUF at Boston University since 2014, the same year he married his wife, Sarah, who was born and raised in the Boston area. Nathan studied architecture at Clemson University, planning to follow in his dad's footsteps as an architect until the financial collapse of 2008 sent him in a different direction. Realizing his love for studying and teaching the Bible to college students, he ministered at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia for two years then moved back to the States to enroll in Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Nathan loves meeting new people, running and working out, playing golf, anything outdoors, travel and good music. Ask him more about himself over coffee at Pavement Coffeehouse...
Chet attended Lehigh University, receiving degrees in mechanical engineering and finance while competing on the rowing team. As a Division-1 rower, Chet could not find a Bible study that tailored to an athlete’s demanding schedule at Lehigh University. So, he and a friend started an athlete-focused Bible study and discipleship group.
Chet’s desire to grow as a Christian began while attending Deerfoot Lodge, a Christian outdoor camp. As a child from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Chet relished his yearly pilgrimage to the wilderness of upstate New York where he learned to canoe, backpack and shoot a bow and arrow. During his last year as a camper, he also noticed Christians whose faith went deeper than his, who worshiped with passion. While he had professed to be a Christian as a boy, he did not connect his faith to his lifestyle. At Deerfoot Lodge, he realized that faith required more from him.
Chet relished seeing fellow students mature in their faith as he had, but he had little time to delve into theology. Chet looks forward to studying scripture and theology more as an intern, as well as continuing to witness God’s life-changing work in others.
Serena grew up in the small town of Akron, Pennsylvania with her parents and five siblings. She graduated with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Millersville University in May of 2018. Serena became involved with RUF on Millersville's campus and saw great growth in her faith, relationship with Jesus, and community through her four years of being involved. The internship presents an exciting opportunity for Serena to continue working in ministry, as she has been heavily involved in youth ministry for the past four years. Serena loves to sing and play music, play board games, drink coffee, and have deep conversations with friends. She is looking forward to building relationships in Boston and being challenged to grow in all areas of life.
